Wisdom teeth are removed as preventive measures as well as to correct current problems. If the dentist sees that the tooth is already impacted or it might be problematic in the future, he will most likely recommend for it to be extracted. Even wisdom teeth that have grown in properly are subject to issues such as an infection from bacteria trapped between the tooth and jaw where it is very difficult to brush. If infections become frequent, it is generally a good idea to have the tooth removed as it can cause medical danger. If the wisdom tooth interferes with the tongue, it will need to be removed as the pain will numb the tongue. Also, anyone who has been orthodontic ally treated is recommended to have the teeth removed as the addition could disrupt the alignment.

Wisdom teeth should only be removed by experienced dental professionals. A panoramic x-ray is the best technology the industry currently has for viewing wisdom teeth and diagnosing problems.

There are several problems which can occur after the removal of wisdom teeth. Some are natural and cannot be avoided, and others the patient has control over. The patient should follow all instructions given by the surgeon diligently. Failure to do so could result in problems ranging from a dry socket to a life-threatening infection.

The wounds will bleed and ooze for up to three days after the surgery. One should refrain from rinsing their mouth as blood clots need to form and rinsing could dislodge the clots. After 24 hours past the surgery, it is good to rinse with lukewarm saltwater. This is to be done every 2 hours until the swelling reduces. The rinse should be applied every 4-6 hours for a week after. Gauze should be placed over the wounds to help stop the bleeding. The bleeding should decrease gradually. If it does not noticeably decline within a day, the surgeon should be contacted. In place of the gauze, a wet tea bag can be used as tannic acid will help to minimize the bleeding. An offensive smell can result from the blood clot along with a foul tasting fluid from the wounds. These will diminish after a week or two.

Dry sockets are caused by a blood clot falling out or failing to form. The surgeon will give advice as to how to avoid these. Painful swelling is to be expected, and is a sign that the body is healing naturally. However, the swelling should begin to reduce after it peaks. If this does not occur, the surgeon needs to be contacted.

Cosmetic dentists use a complete range of restorative techniques and the best dental materials available, as well as the latest clinical techniques using state-of-the-art dental equipment.

IDEAL LONG- TERM RESTORATIONS (LABORATORY MADE)

(a) Cosmetic Tooth-Coloured Porcelain Inlays / Onlays.
• For a superior and natural appearance.
• Bonding to tooth substance for long term strength and function.
• The ideal choice in cosmetic dentistry
• The latest recommended way of filling teeth.

(b) Gold Inlays/Onlays
• Smooth, polished finish (comfortable, less plaque build-up).
• Precision fit (minimum chance of recurrent decay).
• Durability (maximum strength, never break or fracture!).
• Cost effective (cheaper in the long run!).

CONVENTIONAL, ONE VISIT FILLINGS

(a) Tooth coloured aesthetic fillings
Cosmetic Dentists have many shades of filling materials to match your teeth perfectly. These fillings are bonded to the tooth using a special bonding resin. Ultra Violet light is used to set the filling hard instantly so you can eat immediately. Careful attention is paid to shaping and polishing the restoration to produce an ideal and smooth finish. These Cosmetic fillings are now shown to be strong and reliable.

(b) Amalgam
Amalgam fillings are metal. The main disadvantages are the grey/black appearance of the fillings and the fact that they do not bond to tooth structure. Some people are also concerned about the small amount of mercury in the amalgam alloy.

DENTAL CROWNS

A tooth with a very large filling requires a cap or dental crown to protect the tooth from fracturing in the future. This avoids repeat dentistry and is the cost-effective option for the long term.

It is no secret that Beverly Hills is one of the most exclusive communities in the world. There are few other places on earth where how you look matters so much. While not everyone who lives there is a millionaire, just about everyone who lives there looks like one and dresses like one, that’s why getting laser teeth whitening in Beverly Hills is so popular. Everyone wants to look like a million bucks and you simply can’t look that way with yellow, stained teeth that destroy your overall appearance, no matter what you’re wearing. There are several different ways you can get whiter teeth, so let’s look at the options available to you.

One of the most popular choices is laser teeth whitening. While this procedure may be a bit expensive compared to other options, it is likely the only way to whiten teeth that are extremely yellow and stained. Other whitening options may be able to clean off surface stains, but to get the deep down stains off your teeth, you are going to need laser treatments. Make sure you shop around for the best price on laser treatment in your area. Different places can charge radically different prices, so shopping around is always a good idea.

If your teeth stains aren’t that bad, you can also choose a less expensive option such as using a teeth whitening toothpaste or a home whitening kit. With a toothpaste, you would simply follow the directions on the back of the tube until you have achieved the degree of whitening you desire. If you choose to use an at home whitening kit, you may need several treatments or several kits to get your teeth completely white. Whitening your teeth can be a fun and exciting experience, just make sure you always follow the directions.

Imagine finding yourself in a close conversation with someone and suddenly you become aware that the person you are talking with has atrocious smelling breath. Feeling nauseous, you want the conversation to end as you fight hard not to make a expression of total disgust.

It is natural for involuntary responses to take over in this very delicate situation. Escape becomes your number one priority from the foul, offensive odor. Halitosis ,or bad breath as it is commonly known, is difficult to deal with but it is important that it is dealt with.

Responsibility Belongs To All

So how do we address the problem of bad breath? The first step is our own personal responsibility to the health of our teeth.

The practice of good oral hygiene will greatly reduce the chances of bad breath and must be preformed not only for yourself but as a courtesy to others. No one should have to suffer from another’s lack of personal care. A person suffering from halitosis should acknowledge the fact and take the steps necessary to correct the problem. Remember, if simple self-care techniques do not solve the problem, you may want to see your dentist to be sure a more serious condition isn’t causing your bad breath.

Seeking Consult With Others

Often the basis for many jokes, Halitosis, or Bad Breath as it is most commonly known,is not only an embarrassing condition but may potentially be the evidence of a other health related problems. When you or someone you know has bad breath it is important to address the situation rather than ignore it and hope others do the same. Telling someone they have bad breath, though difficult as it may be, could actually save their life.

One of the easiest ways to handle the situation is to offer the other person a piece of gum or a mint. This can be an ice breaker that will help you to open up a conversation on the subject of bad breath and the serious health issues associated with it.All though this may be a hard thing to do it is important that it is done.

In conclusion, it is necessary to understand that certain foods, health conditions and habits are among the causes of bad breath. With proper dental hygiene you can improve the impact of bad breath. And remember,if simple self care techniques don’t solve the problem, you may want to see your dentist to be sure a more serious condition is not causing your bad breath.

The penicillins are the oldest class of antibiotics. Penicillin, the world’s first antibiotic, was discovered by British scientist Alexander Fleming in 1928 on accident.

Over the years, this family of antibiotics has grown, and the antimicrobial activity has expanded. However, despite the discovery of many new antibiotics, the penicillins have remained a primary choice for treatment of a wide variety of bacterial infections. They are used to treat ear, nose and throat infections, respiratory and urinary tract infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.

There are four types of penicillins:

* The natural pencillins are based on the original penicillin-G structure. Penicillin-G types are effective against gram-positive strains of streptococci, staphylococci, and some gram-negative bacteria such as meningococcus.
* Penicillinase-resistant penicillins are active even in the presence of the bacterial enzyme that inactivates most natural penicillins.
* Extended spectrum penicillins which are effective against a wider range of bacteria.
* Aminopenicillins such as ampicillin and amoxicillin have an extended spectrum of action compared with the natural penicillins.

Disadvantages:

* Many of these drugs are destroyed by gastric acid
* Short duration of action - because of the short half-life, the penicillins must be administered at short intervals, usually every 4 hours
* Not effective against most Gram-negative organisms
* Penicillin allergy - about 10% of population has allergy to penicillin
* High rate of gastrointestinal side effects, particularly diarrhea

Advantages:

* Bactericidal against sensitive bacteria
* Relatively safe
* Suitable for use in children and pregnant women
* Excellent tissue penetration
* Inexpensive in comparison with other antibiotics.

Newer penicillins, such as penicillin V, are resistant to stomach acid or, like ampicillin and amoxicillin, have a broader spectrum of action.

Mode of action

Penicillin antibiotics are bactericidal, and act by inhibiting the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls.

Penicillins have a bacteriocidal effect on Gram-positive bacteria. In Gram-positive cells, peptidoglycan makes up as much as 90% of the thick, compact cell wall, and is the outermost layer.
Penicillins are not effective against Gram-negative bacteria, which have cell walls in which peptidoglycan is not the outermost layer, but that lies between the plasma membrane and a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) outer membrane. Penicillin cannot access the peptidoglycan of Gram-negative cells.

Penicillin resistance

Many pathogenic Gram-positive bacteria produce enzymes called Penicillinases (or beta-lactamases) that can inactivate penicillin. The capability of bacteria to synthesize this enzyme is an adaptation that was selected for in the presence of substances that inhibit bacterial growth. This is an example of a type of antibiotic resistance. Penicillins are sometimes combined with beta-lactamase inhibitors (e.g. amoxicillin and clavulanic acid), agents that protect the penicillin from these bacterial enzymes.

You’ve had symptoms and after a period of time trying to remedy the situation you decide to go to the doctor. Upon closer inspection the doctor begins asking questions, conducting a physical exam and will probably order some tests. When the results come back and the doctor completes the equation if you are ill the next chapter in your life begins.

It would be wonderful if everything could be healed with over-the-counter remedies, but that’s not the case. Scientists have spent countless hours and billions of dollars working on treatments that will restore your health. We have to remember that every treatment has a price both literally and figuratively. When making decisions about your healthcare following a life-altering health diagnosis; consider asking the following questions as part of your dialog with the doctor.

1. Based on my diagnosis: why are you suggesting this medication/treatment plan?
Every person is different and so is your disease process. You’re asking your doctor/healthcare partner to explain why out of the myriad of options why did they choose this particular option. Most doctors will tell you that this is the “gold standard” of treatment. The “gold standard” is the term used for the treatment use as a first line of defense based on cumulative data.

The “gold standard” has been proven to be the most effective, but you want to know are all your test results and exam findings in alignment with the data recommending this particular treatment. Don’t leave things to chance. It’s important for the doctor to understand that you’re not challenging their competence, but trying to get a handle on the details of your specific diagnosis.

2. What are the pros and cons of treatment?
It’s crucial to understand that depending on your diagnosis and prognosis, no treatment is considered a treatment option. Remember that doctors take an oath to “do no harm”. Think holistically when having this conversation. Consider how the treatment will impact your life. Once you have the information it’s important to look at the list and decide the concessions you’re willing to make.

3. What’s the efficacy rate of the treatment?
The efficacy rate is the success rate of a medication or treatment protocol. Keep in mind the doctor is working of statistics, but that’s the most conclusive data available. You may ask the question and frame it in a way that you ask the doctor “within your practice what has been the efficacy rate with the prescribed treatment plan?” Once you have the information you can decide whether to proceed or seek out other options.

4. What impact on my daily living will I experience?
Every treatment has some side effect. The side effects may be mild or they may be severe. You need to know this ahead of time so that your decision is based on both health and wellness vs. your quality of life.

At this point gather the information and have a candid discussion with those close to you. Remember that your illness will impact them as well and if they need to support you they should know what that will entail. Getting their support will help you choose a more aggressive form of treatment that will have more prominent side effects, but if it saves your life that’s a trade-off many are willing to make.

These questions are only suggestions and not the only deciding factors when choosing a treatment options. The important thing is to keep the dialog with your doctor open and honest. Limiting surprises in treatment will be comforting and will empower you to move forward on your journey to wellness.
